The federal Projects in Assistance for Transition from Homelessness (PATH) Formula Grant Program funds community-based programs to serve homeless people with mental illnesses and co-occurring substance abuse problems in every American state and territory. PATH provides formula grant awards to States for treatment, support services in residential settings, and the coordination of services and housing.PATH funds may be used for:
- Outreach
- Screening and diagnostic services
- Habilitation and rehabilitation services
- Community mental health services
- Alcohol or drug treatment services (for mentally ill individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders)
- Staff training
- Case management services
- Supportive and supervisory services in residential settings
- Referrals for primary health services, job training, and education services.
- Housing related services (limited to 20% of the grant amount)
