Wells Named Executive Of Year By IAAP Chapter

Ruby Wells, Human Resource Manager at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion, has been named the 2005 Executive of the Year (EOTY) by the New River Valley Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). The award was presented to her at the EOTY Banquet held at the Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on November 14, 2005.

Wells joined the staff at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI) on March 1 of this year, having served as the Human Resource Manager at the Southwestern Virginia Training Center in Hillsville since 1997. Prior to 1997, she served as the Classification and Compensation Analyst for nearly 10 years at SWVMHI. She has also held positions with the Mt. Rogers IDC and at Ft. Bragg.

She is a graduate of Hiwasee College in Madisonville, Tennessee, where she earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Wells received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland.

The employee who nominated Wells for the award wrote of her: “From the first day Ms. Wells walked through the door as Human Resource Manager at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute, it became clear that she was supportive of education, professional development, and the personal lives of the employees she supervises.”

The employee added: “It truly is a wonderful feeling having a supervisor who is not only supportive of her employees’ careers and job performances, but also genuinely interested in each of them as people and friends. She treats everyone with dignity and respect, and has made me feel like a true member of the Human Resources Team.”

The Executive of the Year Award is given each year in recognition of an executive’s interest and support of the New River Valley Chapter of the IAAP. The IAAP is the world’s largest association for administrative support staff, with nearly 600 chapters and 40,000 members and affiliates worldwide. For more than 60 years, IAAP has provided up-to-date research on office trends, cutting-edge publications, outstanding seminars and conferences, and top-notch resources to help administrative professionals enhance their skills and become more effective contributors to their employers.

Wells is married to Robert Wells. She has one daughter and two grandchildren. She makes her home in Mouth of Wilson on her husband’s family homestead. *****
