College of Direct Support Teams up with Virginia Facilities
In just a matter of weeks, employees on the front lines of service with
Virginia’s Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse
Services, will have access to high quality, "best practices" training, right on
the job site. The College of Direct Support is an internet based system designed
for direct service providers working in Virginia’s MR and MH state facilities.
The program offers training, new skills, and opportunities for continuing
education when it goes on line in August. Direct care providers can study and be
tested at their own pace, right at work, with a wide variety of courses. The
College of Direct Support can open up unlimited pathways to career ladder
opportunities or progress toward an Associates degree. Increased training and
education can lead to the potential for promotion and greater career
satisfaction. The College of Direct Support is on its’ way to the workplace,
inside the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and
Substance Abuse Services. Continuing education will never be easier or less
expensive for caregivers and service providers. Kick-off informational sessions
will be held across the state, beginning the second week in August.
